Walking in LA...

nobody walks in LA

I do not have a car but have been able to get around to the places I want to go in Los Angeles fairly easily. One major card I carry in my favor is my fantastic personality which comes in handy when I ask for rides. The other advantage of having to ride with other people to most places is that the burden does not rest on me to decide where we go or when or how long we stay. Of course I contribute my opinion when called for, but I don't feel that strong sense of responsibility. Yesterday, for example, I did not go anywhere during the day because (beyond being unbearable tired) I did not have the means to go anywhere. So, I took care of some housework that I've been avoiding like laundry, sweeping, and clearing a clogged drain. Then, Heather called and whisked me off to dinner at Legend (she doesn't like bean sprouts) and to Kate/Nikki's reading series at Paul/Daniel's studio on the east side. H made the executive decision to leave right when I got a call from Barc, so she dropped me off at his place where I drank whisky, watched Keyboard Cat play You Make My Dreams Come True, and fell asleep mid-sentence.

I got the most spectacular night of sleep in recent history, actually, after not having slept a lick on Saturday night. We'd spent the day at the beach (no complaints here!) --after I made a zucchini frittata and cumin homefries for breakfast with Lori-- and then had several beers at VBW before 9pm. So by the time we were deciding whether to go out, I was ready for bed. Friday night was equally exciting: I volunteered at Lori's Break the Cycle Unmasquerade (keeping all negative commentary to myself) and was home just after 10pm. It's official. I am retired from partying.

cosmic

so the last couple of weeks have been weird. I'll just leave it at that.

the food, though, has been great, of course.

tonight, i had pupusas from this el salvadorian restaurante called las tunas where you can get pupusas for $.99 on martes y miercoles (yes i know it's saturday but i had a hankering and didn't feel like cooking). i didn't feel like going anywhere sit down, fancy either after this epic three course feast at night+market, a thai place on sunset that belongs to my roommate's friend's (both of whom are my friends) boyfriend's friend. you can see some notes and photos on the supplemental site fattractive.com. the rest of today i pretty much spent on my roof eating chips and guac and ice cream--getting a tan on my back!

yesterday i went to the prince after an art thing (la cienegas projects) after a comedy thing (pftompkins and maya rudolph as hg wells and anais nin at UCB) with this new friend meg who is a comedian that i met because we both got jobs at livingsocial and we were each other's favorite. i had a beer before she picked me up and i think i might have told her some embarrassing secrets. but, i think the pants on this guy at the prince totally washed our minds blank of anything that happened or was said before it.

seriously, look at these pants.

let's see...what else? i've gone hiking a lot with another new friend barclay and deafinitely and found a place for $1 tacos with my ex-step-cousin/neighbor laci. laci and i also took advantage of a foursquare deal for free lattes at yogozone that i first cashed in on with her sister and also my ex-step-cousin/neighbor lori. lori and i had come up with a food party concept that you can see notes about on fattractive.com called dinner without borders. this still needs some fleshing, but i am also working on another concept called comedia dell (dinner) partay with dishes like miso corny, my hammy vice, rubber chicken a la king, and cream pie in the face (or some variation that she would magically work up with her le cordon bleu training).

oh and i went to a beer making party and malibu wines last weekend, the latter being in the most beautiful countryside i've ever seen. the former smelling really bad.
